The need for new paving and an upgrade of the Norwegian road network is great. Earlier this year, NCC summarized that the accumulated maintenance debt for the Scandinavian road system is approximately EUR 7.8 billion and that the road network will deteriorate if nothing is done.
"While these contracts will obviously help to raise the standard of roads across Norway, it is also important to stress that the need for maintenance is huge. Investments must be increased to reduce the maintenance debt," says Grete Aspelund, Head of NCC Industry.
As of January 1, 2024, under a new law in Norway, environmental criteria must carry a minimal weighting of 30 percent in public procurements. NCC has won many state and regional contracts during the year due to the prioritization of CO₂ reduction in procurement requirements.
"Our Norwegian contracts have a good mix of price and environmental declarations with low CO₂ emissions from our asphalt deliveries. The introduction of environmental weighting criteria in the contracts is therefore working as intended and more countries should follow suit," says Grete Aspelund.
The contracts refer to the following assignments:
Sør-Trøndelag, Norwegian Public Roads Administration
Nedre Buskerud, Asker and Bærum, Norwegian Public Roads Administration
Sogn and Fjordane, Norwegian Public Roads Administration
Nord in Rogaland, Norwegian Public Roads Administration
Dalane and Jæren, Rogaland County Authority
Ryfylke and Nord-Jæren, Rogaland County Authority
Vestland, Vestland County Authority
Fylkesveier Sunnmøre, Møre and Romsdal County Authority
Fylkesveier Nordmøre, Møre and Romsdal County Authority
The total order value of the contracts is approximately SEK 380 million and the orders will be registered in the NCC Industry business area in the second quarter of 2024.
