The Office of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper held an event at the Kempower North America headquarters in Durham, N.C. to commemorate Gov. Cooper’s achievements in clean energy and economic development since 2018.
DURHAM, N.C., DEC. 13, 2024 – The Office of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper held an event at the Kempower North America headquarters in Durham, N.C. to commemorate Gov. Cooper’s achievements in clean energy and economic development since 2018.
The goals laid out in Executive Order 80 outline North Carolina’s commitment to address climate change and transition to a clean energy economy. At today’s event, Gov. Cooper celebrated those initiatives and North Carolina’s progress alongside clean energy and economic development champions in North Carolina.
North Carolina has become the ideal candidate for technology and clean energy institutions to grow and flourish. The state has seen a significant increase in the number of clean energy companies expanding operations within the state, including Kempower, which began its North American operations in November 2023. The state reached its goal of 80,000 registered electric vehicles (EV) two years early. And as the number of North Carolinians going electric rises, so does the need for EV fast-charging solutions for everyone, everywhere.
Kempower continues to enhance global EV infrastructure in North America through its essential work to support North Carolina’s clean energy and economic development goals, paving the way for a cleaner and healthier environment.
“Over the last eight years, we’ve created a roadmap to move North Carolina toward a clean energy economy to benefit our planet, people and pocketbooks,” said Gov. Roy Cooper. “North Carolina is the epicenter of the clean energy economy, and we’re training people, so they have the skills to take on all of the good-paying clean energy jobs coming to every corner of our state.”
“We are honored to host Governor Cooper and his team to commemorate their commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives in North Carolina and proud to have been part of this work,” said Kempower Interim Managing Director and Vice President of Finance and Administration Erin Johnston. “The Governor’s leadership and support of technology companies like Kempower paves the way to a more sustainable future.”
“Success in economic development takes vision and determination and Governor Cooper has delivered, especially with the development of the clean energy economy in North Carolina,” said Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders. “Beyond the opportunity to improve the environment and the health and well-being of our people, Governor Cooper knew that addressing climate change could bring major economic benefits, and we’ve seen this with new jobs being created all across North Carolina."
"Under Governor Cooper's leadership, North Carolina is seeing a blossoming of clean energy jobs," said Dr. Scott Ralls, Wake Tech Community College president. "Behind that are community colleges who are preparing students to take on these clean energy opportunities with workforce training."
Kempower is eager to continue driving sustainability objectives in North Carolina and advancing the world to an emission-free future. Kempower estimates the North American DC charging market to grow nearly $7 billion by 2030, with the number of electric vehicles growing to around 40 million by 2030.
