Scanfil and Etteplan improve product life cycle and manufacturability with re-design
Scanfil and its development partner Etteplan started a re-design program for a global industrial customer in construction and living.
The program includes re-designing 21 printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and targets over 10 years of product life-cycle extension combined with improved manufacturability and lower cost. The program was kicked off just before summer. The first designs have now been prototyped and tested.
The program will run in four subsequent waves, each with 5-6 PCBA designs. All re-designs will be completed within 18 months.
“This program demonstrates that we can deliver on our promise of fast time-to-market. Given the scalability of the development resources from Etteplan, we are designing several boards in parallel, and by adding our proactive approach to supply chain management and design for manufacturing support we can reduce the number of prototype rounds and ensure a smooth new product introduction”, says Reijo Kalenius, Global Development Manager at Scanfil.
The program includes several Scanfil sites with Sieradz working on the component evaluation and Malmö on the design for manufacturing support and rapid prototyping. Atlanta factory will eventually be responsible for serial production and delivery to the end customer in North America. Etteplan carries out most of the development work in Poland.
“This is a great example of our long-lasting partnership. As a company with extensive experience in engineering and PCBA design, it’s exciting to see how we can together with Scanfil bring value to their customer through this program”, says Tero Leppänen, SVP of Software and Embedded Solutions at Etteplan.
“These products will be a great addition to our delivery scope and this program shows the potential of our combined design and manufacturing services offering with Etteplan. It is wonderful to see how excited our global team is in taking on such an assignment and how we can together support our customers’ need for fast time-to-market”, says Global Sales Manager Andreas Bohner at Scanfil.
