Vultus launches forage grass analytics service - calculates real-time protein levels in crop fields
Vultus AB ("Vultus" or the "Company") announces the launch of a new analytics service that enables growers to predict protein level and dry matter content of the grass across each part of a field in real time. The analytics service is unique on the market and allows for a significantly improved overview of dry matter and protein levels in the grass crop. The commercial launch follows successful field trials in Norway, which indicate savings of at least 20%. The service, which will initially be launched by Vultus and TKS Agri (TKS) in Sweden and Norway, is primarily aimed at dairy and meat producers.

Vultus launches a new and unique approach to monitoring and optimizing feed quality in partnership with TKS. Correct levels of raw protein are crucial to produce quality feeds for each group of livestock that depends on feed for their nutrition. Vultus new analytics service makes it possible to predict protein levels in each part of the crop throughout the growth phase. The potential market is significant - over 25% of the global land surface is used for grass crop production and pasture.
"One of the best and most recognized measures of feed quality is the amount of raw protein it contains. Currently, manual sampling of grass fields is used to determine protein levels, which is a very time-consuming and expensive process. We are now introducing a new analytical service, unique on the market, together with TKS, that allows the protein level of each part of the field to be determined in real time. The analytics service will provide significant savings for farmers and a much easier process for optimized feed administration to each group of individuals. We are engaged in discussions with a number of leading organizations in dairy and meat production regarding the implementation of the analytics service for their affiliated farmers", says Per Karlsson, CEO of Vultus.
"The service will change how we assess forage quality, as average values can be monitored with good precision throughout the growing season. The farmer and the feeder can make better decisions and optimize the farm's grass harvest, and they also know the input values of the feed when it goes to silage and can thus assess how good their own practices are. The service also allows you to look back several years and assess the impact of measures taken in previous seasons. The tool will increase insight into your own crop in a way that we have not seen before", says Atle Sjølyst-Kverneland, General Manager at TKS.
Successful field studies in Norway
The major source of nutrition for cattle is the grass crop and it is important to ensure that the dry matter and protein content of the grass is high enough to meet the nutritional needs of each group of individuals. Dry matter is the part of the grass that does not contain water. The higher the dry matter content, the more energy and protein the grass contains and the better it is for the animals. Vultus can accurately detect the amount of water and dry matter in grass, key structural and biochemical variables, and monitor plant growth and vegetation status throughout the growing season.
Through extensive field studies in Norway, Vultus and TKS have confirmed that the analytics service enables farmers to achieve savings on concentrates and additives of at least 20 percent.
This is achieved by the analytics service's ability to monitor the development and quality of the forage crop throughout the growing season, optimizing precision feeding - the right amount of forage and concentrate for the right individual.
