Lower Manhattan, NY – In a monumental leap towards sustainable urban mobility Revel and Kempower, the leading provider of public fast charging in New York City; celebrated the opening of state-of-the-art DC fast charging hub at Pier 36 in Lower Manhattan, New York City.
The installation was celebrated on Thursday, 25th September 2024, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Revel’s newest charging station commissioned by Kempower.
“Hundreds of thousands of rideshare and taxi trips go in and out of Manhattan every day. With our new Pier 36 Charging Station, Revel is bringing the fastest charging on the market directly to those drivers so they can access EVs easier — saving them money and saving us all from breathing in more needless car pollution,” said Frank Reig, Revel’s Co-Founder & CEO. “This is our first deployment of Kempower chargers, bringing the highest speeds and reliability to our network. We're looking forward to adding them to more sites in the future."
Located right off the FDR Drive, this strategic EV fast charging site will become a highly sought-after EV charging hub in North America; particularity useful to the more than 100,000 rideshare drivers electrifying under New York City’s Green Rides Initiative. The City of New York requires the city's rideshare fleet to be made up of either zero-emission vehicles or wheelchair accessible vehicles by 2030. Under the proposed guidelines, NYC will become the first large city in the world to have a rideshare fleet that is entirely zero-emissions or wheelchair accessible.
“This first-ever overwater EV charging site is situated in the Lower East Side over the East River, between the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges,” said Jed Routh, VP of Markets and Products, North America. “This prime location ensures maximum convenience for drivers, further encouraging the shift towards electric vehicles. Kempower’s dynamic load sharing technology and well-designed user-interface makes charging extremely easy for EV drivers.”
